I recently wrote to my congresswoman, the Honorable Patty Murray of Washington State, asking which law states that I am legally liable to the Federal Government to pay income taxes. Here is the response:

"As you know, Article I of the Constitution gives Congress the power to raise revenue through legislation. However, the federal income tax was established by the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution, passed in 1913. This amendment gives Congress the power to “lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

Looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, walks like a duck... Must be a form response!

If this is a form response though, that means this question is being asked quite a bit as of late.

She also didn't answer my question. She gave me what I like to refer to as a 'non-answer'.
