The comments are pretty one-sided.

Ed and Elaine did get a fair trial, and if they had any issues with the trial they could appeal all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. In fact, Ed and Elaine figured out that the weight of the evidence was against them -- it wasn't simply not getting an answer to their questions but also illegally structuring currency transactions and actively evading txes -- and that the jury was going to rule against them anyway. Elaine should have accepted a generous plea bargain, but didn't and now faces many years in prison, while Ed didn't show up and will now get a sentence so long that he will probably die in prison, when he probably could have plea bargained for a couple of years.

Among his many miscalculations, Ed thought that hundreds if not thousands of armed people would show up to defend him, but only got "one grandma with a camera". The few others who did show up will probably be going home shortly because of the cold and to get on with their own lives.

What did Ed accomplish? He appeared in several news reports such as on CNN where he comes off as just another militia kook and a tax evading criminal, thus tarnishing the tax protestor movement once again.

But don't worry, Ed and Elaine WILL be forgotten. When was the last time you heard an audioblog from Lynne Meredith or Steven Scharff or even Irwin Schiff?

The near-total lack of real support for Ed Brown shows just how small and weak the tax protestor movement is. Lots of bloggers; not much else.

Quatloos must be an implant from the Stalin regime.
His wording is quite eliquent but with one heck of a communist twist.
It's saddening that men wish to enslave other men and conquer other peoples.
Come Jesus come, destroy this evil...
