The income tax trial of Tommy Cryer, attorney at law

Today was day one of what should be a fairly short trial.

Having no evidence to support their charges, the federal government kicked off the proceedings by moving to drop the two felony tax evasion charges, leaving only two counts of failure to file a tax return. But the tax evasion charges have served their usual purpose, that of impugning Mr. Cryer's impeccable reputation and making it difficult to earn a living while fighting the IRS. The charges didn't need to be valid to be damaging; the mud-slinging was adequate all by itself.
