OK more news to report:

First, a reminder that Ed is still welcoming and inviting nonviolent folks to the area, but not everyone is going to get into the house.

However yesterday afternoon around 5 p.m. Ed pulled me aside and expressed concern (politely by Ed standards) about two things related to me personally. first...the fact that I have indicated that I do not intend to physically resist a Federal raid, and second...the fact that I work for a media outlet he's angry with. This led me to some new confusion regarding whether he wants me inside the house or not. so at next opportunity I pressed him on this and asked him what he would like me to do. He again indicated that I should probably go, but said he hated having to say it. Basically he doesn't quite trust me (he says he thinks I look like a bureaucrat LOL)

He encouraged me to do my thing in support on the outside. So, happy to be among those who still respect his property rights, I gave him an embrace and left (an hour early) without ill feeling. There was a lot of embracing going on yesterday but I think I am the only one kicked out of the house. The others were shocked, but in reality it may be a sign that the numbers are getting high enough so ed doesn't have to accept just any piece of help he's offered.

I asked him if other nonviolent folks are still welcome on-property and he indicated that we are, but that could change and again you are probably not getting into the house unless ed knows you fairly well. Maybe you would end up needing to get a motel, maybe you'd be at the entrance, maybe in a heated location near the home.... the point is there is recurring uncertainty regarding where people can stay or go.

Please do not let this deter you from driving up there. Numbers got pretty high this weekend but they need to stay high during the week too. If worse comes to worst you can usually hang out at the driveway entrance, warm up in your car or by a bonfire, rent a motel for overnight, or go in with others on a motel. the super 8 in white river junction worked great for me last week. it's 12 mi away.

It may also be of some interest that he knows who my employers are because I volunteered the information when I heard he was angry with them. I do not, however, work for my employer while engaged in political activism. My policy has also generally been to recuse myself, while at work, from matters connected to Ed since I know him and am personally biased in his favor. Not that I do much news writing or decision making, not that they pay any attention to what I say anyway!

As this situation unfolds, this kind of thing may happen again to others, and we need to be understanding and not freak out when Ed doesn't trust one or more of us enough to let or keep us in his home. I hope my continuing support for Ed and his cause can serve as an example for any of you who might be tempted to abandon him just because he does not trust you 100%, or because he offends you in some other way.

He's standing up to Washington, and he's the most visible standup we got right now so let's keep our differences under control and keep pouring on the support.
